Why this tool exists

In process improvement projects, the hardest question is not “how does the process run” — draw it and you can see that. The hard question is “what does it cost, and which fix is worth it”. Most of the answers still come from gut feel or an Excel sheet adding up the step times, while that kind of adding ignores three important things: parallel branches, exclusive branches, and rework.

This tool exists so those numbers have something to stand on. It does not replace the analyst, it only does the calculation properly: for parallel work take the MAX of the times but the SUM of the costs, for a branch point compute a weighted expected value, for rework solve an absorbing Markov chain so that every turn of the loop is counted. All the formulas are written out in the Formulas section with hand-calculated examples, so you can verify rather than simply believe.

The principles behind it

  • 100% free. There is no paid tier, no feature limits, no advertising, no selling data.
  • The user's data belongs to the user. Each process belongs to exactly one account, can be downloaded at any time, and can be wiped at any time.
  • Nothing about the calculation is hidden. Every number has its formula and an example alongside it in the documentation.
  • Honesty about the limits. Wherever something is an approximation it says so, and it points out which number to look at instead.
